Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja has criticized the government for targeting women, stating that they have been the biggest victims of the movement. Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore on International Women’s Day, Raja said that dozens of women, including Kanwal Shauzab, Alia Haider, and Zartaj Gul, have been sentenced. He claimed that Bushra Bi Bi has been in jail for over a year, merely because she is the wife of PTI’s founder Imran Khan. Raja also noted that today marks the anniversary of the assassination of Zahra Shah, whose killer still roams free, while those who love her are in prison. He stated that the country is plagued by injustice, fake trials, and false convictions, and that the system of oppression has been in place for 78 years and needs to be eradicated.
Raja further stated that on February 8, the government dishonored the vote of confidence given to PTI’s founder, and that they will give the people of Pakistan their true freedom. In a separate incident, some women who were planning to participate in the Women’s March in Islamabad were detained by the police. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that the Greater Karachi Municipal Corporation will complete the installation of the flyover in Azimpur in 100 days.
