The Sindh Cabinet has made a decision to keep schools across the province closed from March 16 to March 31 in the wake of the energy crisis. The provincial cabinet has approved the closure of schools, keeping in mind the measures to conserve energy. According to the decision, exams will be held as scheduled, despite schools being closed.
Senior Minister Sindh Syed Sharjeel Inam Memon, while addressing a press conference in Karachi, stated that schools will remain closed from March 16 to March 31. He added that 50% reduction in fuel for government vehicles has been implemented, a ban has been imposed on the purchase of new vehicles and furniture, ministers have surrendered their security vehicles, and 60% of government vehicles will be kept off the road for two months. Furthermore, a 50% reduction in fuel for government vehicles has been made for two months, and 60% of the vehicles of all government departments will be kept off the road.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that our stance is with the province, our thinking is in sync with the government. He announced that government offices will not remain closed on Friday, but instead, work from home will be implemented. A ban on refreshments in government offices has been imposed for two months, and unnecessary protocols will be avoided.
Sharjeel Memon stated that the decision regarding the salary of MPAs will be made by the Sindh Assembly. He added that no government event will be held at a hotel, but instead, it will be held in a government building. He emphasized that they want to conserve resources, but not at the cost of the economy. He announced that the timings of shops during Eid will remain the same, and a ban has been imposed on government-level iftar gatherings.
According to Sharjeel Memon, the cabinet has decided that no minister will attend iftar gatherings, and the Sindh Chief Minister and ministers have surrendered their security vehicles. He stated that they are trying to conserve resources but not at the cost of the economy. He added that the Sindh Chief Minister’s plane will remain grounded, and he will not use it. He emphasized that the increase in petrol prices is not something to be welcomed, and the saved resources will be used for the welfare of the people.
Sharjeel Memon stated that people who have been given unnecessary police mobiles will be taken back, and the government’s priority is to conserve fuel. He announced that a meeting will be held with transporters regarding fuel conservation, and action will be taken against those who have increased their fares voluntarily.
