A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court has handed down a verdict in the case of the 9/2 Haji Camp attack. Judge Amjad Ali Shah announced the verdict, sentencing 47 accused to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 5 million rupees each. The accused include Omar Ayub, Zarafat Ali, Murad Saeed, Shahbaz Gill, Hamad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, Rashid Shafique, Shahbaz Gill, Zulfi Bukhari, Muhammad Ahmed Chattha, Rai Hassan Nawaz, Rai Muhammad Murtaza, Shahbaz Gill, Usman Saif Buzdar, and Ajaz Khan Jazai. The court ordered the confiscation of the accused’s properties, stating that the sentenced accused were involved in the conspiracy of the 9/2 events, as reported by JIT, which had implicated the accused in planning violent protests.
In a statement, Faisal Malik said that today was the day of the Haji Camp attack case hearing, and our legal team came prepared with the case after preparing it. The verdict stated that the sentenced accused were involved in the attacks on the Haji Camp gate, Hamza Camp, and Army Museum, as reported by JIT, which had designated the sentenced accused as the main accused in the 9/2 events. The court stated that the accused were charged with inciting a siege, vandalism, attacks on police, and damage to government properties on 9/2. In the case, 118 accused, including PTI founder and ex-Finance Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, were charged with the case in December 2024.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah stated in the verdict that 44 witnesses had been recorded in the case so far, and 18 accused had been consistently absent from court during the trial. The court had also issued a separate trial for 47 advertising accused under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The prosecution had filed an application on January 6 to take action against the advertising accused, and the court had formed an inquiry into the matter. On January 8, a proclamation was issued for the 47 absconding accused. The court had given the advertising accused 7 days to surrender before the court, but none of them appeared before the court despite the issuance of court orders and a proclamation. The court had appointed a state counsel to frame charges against the accused.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah stated in the verdict that the prosecution had recorded statements of 19 witnesses, and the state counsel had recorded the statements of witnesses in the case. After the completion of the trial of the 47 advertising accused, the court announced its verdict.
A corruption case worth billions of rupees has been registered at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), with former Chairman Ahmed Hyat and former General Manager Syed Jamshed Zaidi being named as accused. DSP Asghar Ali Shah said that 5 officials and 8 civilians were injured in the blast.
According to sources, the Iranian Air Force said it had not attacked countries that had refused to give it permission to strike Iran.
