Pakistan’s opposition leader Raja Pervez Ashraf has categorically rejected the recent petrol price hike, calling it unacceptable and unjustifiable. In a statement, the former Prime Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader vowed to take the fight to the government over the rising inflation and economic woes.
The government’s decision to increase the petrol price to Rs. 55 per liter has been met with severe criticism from the opposition, with the PPP vowing to raise its voice against the move in the parliament. Ashraf warned that the hike will not only affect the common man but also put a dent in the country’s economy.
The PPP leader also criticized the government for not taking any concrete steps to provide relief to the common man despite the growing economic burden. He said that the government should have taken steps to mitigate the impact of the price hike before imposing it on the people.
Ashraf also made a scathing attack on the Indian government, saying that the Modi-led administration’s “irresponsible” policies have put the entire region in peril. He claimed that the South Asian region will not be able to tolerate such aggressive behavior from India.
In a bid to address the economic woes, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to take emergency measures to reduce the consumption of fuel, including the implementation of a hybrid system in schools and universities. The authorities also plan to increase the usage of public transport, including buses and metro services, to reduce the burden on the common man.
In other news, the University of Karachi has decided to shift its morning classes online, while the University of Sindh has also announced a summer break from March 16. The University of Sindh has also expressed its opposition to the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government has said that it will not target countries that have refused to allow American planes to attack its territory. The Israeli Defense Minister has also warned Lebanon to follow his instructions or face further military action.
In a separate incident, a man was killed and another injured in a firing incident in the Hajipurah area of Sahiwal, Punjab. The incident occurred when a group of people opened fire on a petrol pump after a disagreement with the owner.
In a related development, the Emirates Ministry of Defense has said that its defense system has successfully intercepted 15 ballistic missiles and 119 drones launched by Iran. The ongoing conflict in the region has forced Emirati businessmen to sell gold at discounted prices.
In other news, a court in Pakistan has sentenced 47 advertising executives to 10 years in prison and a fine of 5 million rupees each for spreading fake news about the country’s economy.
