Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is actively working to enhance digital access across the country, with ongoing discussions with Starlink aimed at introducing satellite-based internet services. During the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman met with Starlink representatives to discuss improving broadband, particularly in underserved regions, to bridge the digital divide.
The PTA is focused on promoting innovation and the adoption of new technologies for nationwide connectivity. Starlink’s registration with the relevant satellite regulatory body is underway, a crucial step before obtaining the necessary PTA license. The meeting covered satellite internet solutions, their market positioning, and their potential to serve remote areas, along with discussions on regulatory frameworks and operational strategies.
Starlink is anticipated to offer three service packages in Pakistan: Residential (50-250 Mbps, Rs35,000/month, Rs110,000 hardware), Business (Rs95,000/month, Rs220,000 hardware), and Mobility (50-250 Mbps, Rs50,000/month, Rs120,000 setup). Interested users can sign up by checking availability on the Starlink website, paying a deposit, receiving the Starlink Kit, and installing the dish for instant satellite connection.
