Iran has partially reopened its airspace and six airports, according to reports from Iranian media. The Iranian Air Lines Association stated that Iran has reopened its airspace and multiple airports starting from 7 am local time. The head of the National Security Committee, Ibrahim Azizi, has now called for the imposition of a new maritime system for the Strait of Hormuz.
The airports reopened include Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, Mehrabad International Airport, as well as those in Mashhad, Birjand, Gorgan, and Zahedan. According to a report by Tassnim News Agency, which cited the association’s secretary, airlines are preparing for the resumption of domestic and international flights.
In a move that is likely to further escalate tensions with the US, Donald Trump said that the US would not extend the ceasefire that expires on Monday and that if Iran doesn’t agree to a deal, the US will resume attacks. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said that the UN Security Council’s five permanent members will have to change their stance if they fail to prevent the war.
According to Arab media, Iran’s ambassador was handed a protest note by the UAE over Iran’s attack on a British oil tanker and a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The tanker was carrying 20 million barrels of Iraqi oil.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s gunboats reportedly fired at the tanker. In a statement, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Iran’s navy is fully prepared to inflict new and bitter defeats on its enemies.
A report by the British agency Reuters stated that a ship was reportedly attacked by Iranian gunboats 20 nautical miles off the coast of Oman. The head of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said that Iran will not accept any exceptions to international law and will not relinquish its rights.
In a move that is likely to further strain relations between the two countries, the US is reportedly trying to weaken the diplomatic path. Iran will respond officially after considering US suggestions, the Supreme National Security Council said.
