Iran has reopened the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil trade, following a significant easing of tensions with the United States. In a statement, US President Donald Trump expressed gratitude to Iran for announcing the reopening of the strait. The strait has been fully opened, and commercial shipping is now ready to resume, provided that a 100% agreement is reached with Iran, and maritime restrictions will remain in place until then.
US President Donald Trump stated that most details have already been discussed, and the US will obtain enriched uranium from Iran, without any financial compensation. The agreement is not related to Lebanon, and the US will separately work on the issue with Lebanon. The US President also stated that it will handle the issue of Hezbollah properly. The US President further added that Israel will no longer carry out airstrikes on Lebanon.
It is worth noting that Iran had announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following which commercial shipping resumed. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, stated in a social media post that the strait would remain open for commercial shipping during the ceasefire period, following a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that all commercial ships will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire period. The minister added that the strait has been fully opened for commercial shipping, and ships will continue to pass through during the ceasefire period. Ships passing through the strait will have to follow the routes designated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.
According to Arab media, Iran’s ambassador was handed a protest note over the attack on a British oil tanker and a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had informed US officials, including top executives of General Motors and Ford, before the conflict started. Initial talks suggested that Iran could play a larger role in arms production.
Iran will respond to US suggestions after that, while the Supreme National Security Council has stated that human rights experts have deemed the Taliban’s new judicial code to be against international law. The US President stated that the US does not need anyone’s permission for its actions. The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that it is the responsibility of the Lebanese government to arrest those involved in the attack on the international force.
According to Arab media, Iranian gunboats had fired at oil tankers to prevent their passage, with 20 million barrels of Iraqi oil on board. In a statement, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that Iran’s navy is fully prepared to inflict a new and bitter defeat on its enemies.
According to the British Maritime Agency, reports have emerged of a situation 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman, where Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps gunboats had approached a tanker. The head of Iran’s National Security Committee, Ibrahim Azizi, stated that it is time to establish a new maritime system for the Strait of Hormuz. The spokesperson for the Khattam al-Anbia Central Command stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under strict Iranian control and that there has been no change in its previous state.
At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the spokesperson stated that Israel is behind the security issue, not to secure its security, but to acquire more land. Iran will respond to US suggestions after that, while the Supreme National Security Council stated that high government sources have denied reports that a second round of talks between the US and Iran was not taking place in Islamabad on Wednesday.
