Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Ahmed Khan, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to achieving the objective of ending wars and establishing lasting peace. Speaking at the UN, Khan stated that Pakistan has successfully hosted the Islamabad talks and that the negotiations were made possible through efforts of contacts and diplomacy with the parties involved. He emphasized that Pakistan supports the sovereignty, regional integrity, and security of all brotherly countries in the region.
Khan also emphasized that the issue between the US and Iran cannot be resolved through war but through negotiations. He highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital international waterway for the transportation of goods and energy and that Pakistan demands the safety of ships and crews, uninterrupted passage, and the resumption of normal maritime traffic in the strait.
The Pakistani ambassador noted that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is having negative effects on countries around the world, including Pakistan, and that the Pakistani people are also being affected. He added that the impacts are not limited to energy supplies but also extend to food and other essential items. Khan further stated that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has also warned of serious consequences and that the global community is concerned about the increase in public debt in response to the energy crisis.
Khan stated that Pakistan remains committed to playing a constructive role in achieving lasting peace in the region. He emphasized that the country is in agreement with the basic objective of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring normalcy in the region. Khan added that any discussion or arrangement related to the strait should take into account the legitimate interests of GCC countries.
The Pakistani ambassador emphasized that Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace and preventing escalation in the region have been acknowledged, particularly in the context of efforts to end the war and promote negotiations between the US and Iran. He stated that the country remains committed to playing a constructive role in achieving lasting peace in the region.
