In a significant move, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday evening. The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, expressed optimism about the progress made in US-Iran talks, but emphasized that there is still a long way to go. The 45-minute call between the two leaders focused on the current situation in the region and the efforts being made to promote peace and stability.
Prime Minister Sharif thanked President Raisi and the Iranian leadership for sending a high-level delegation to Islamabad on April 11-12, led by Speaker Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The US media had earlier reported that the Iranian delegation was set to arrive in Islamabad on Monday. The Prime Minister briefed President Raisi on his recent meetings with world leaders, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, which he said have been instrumental in fostering dialogue and diplomacy in the region.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the Iranian leadership for their constructive dialogue with Field Marshal Asim Munir during his visit to Tehran. US President Donald Trump had stated that they would not repeat the mistakes of the Barack Obama era, to which Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region with the support of its friendly countries.
In a separate development, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted a raid on an illegal call center in the Blouch Colony area, resulting in the resolution of 20 out of 28 cases. The agency announced that the swift resolution of cases was made possible due to the use of modern technology.
The visit of Iranian officials to Islamabad for the second phase of talks was also discussed during the meeting. A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing three suspects chasing a car on a motorcycle.
