In a significant move aimed at empowering the country’s youth, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the government is actively working to provide the younger generation with the necessary skills to become an effective part of Pakistan’s workforce. This assurance was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to discuss the provision of employment and professional training to the youth.
The meeting, attended by federal ministers, including Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, Minister of State for Interior, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Minister of State for Education, Rana Tanvir Hussain, and Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr. Tariq Banuri, among others, aimed to review the progress made in this regard.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the performance of the PM Youth Program, chaired by Rana Mashhood Khan, and directed the authorities to expedite efforts to provide technical and vocational training to the youth. The PM noted that reforms introduced in the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) have led to an improvement in the training system, while international certification is a top priority for the government.
Briefing on the meeting, it was informed that the Prime Minister Youth Program and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have identified employment opportunities in various sectors, including IT, health, construction, tourism, and logistics, on an international level. The Higher Education Commission is also tracking 282 universities’ graduates through a digital app to prepare employment statistics and improve future education policies.
The meeting also discussed the launch of the ‘Matric Tech’ program in 32 educational institutions under the Ministry of Education, with a plan to introduce the ‘Inter Tech’ program soon. The program aims to equip students with technical skills to enhance their employability.
In related news, the Sindh government’s spokesperson, Sadiya Javed, responded to the MQM’s criticism, saying that those politicizing the Karachi situation should first take responsibility for the city’s problems. The MQM’s spokesperson claimed that Karachi has sunk into chaos, with the so-called development projects failing to yield any results.
In a separate development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced that the Qasim Power Plant will be operated on a reduced capacity due to low water levels in the Indus River. The authority also warned of power outages in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the government is committed to providing electricity to the National Assembly Secretariat through the Green Parliament Solar System. The Sindh Secretariat has handed over properties, gardens, agricultural land, pay orders, and looted money to the Chief Secretary of Sindh in a ceremony.
