In a shocking revelation, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service has disclosed that the transfer of power in North Korea is imminent, with the country’s leader Kim Jong-un reportedly grooming his 13-year-old daughter Kim Jo-ae as his successor. This development has raised concerns about a potential power struggle within the Kim family.
According to a report by an international media outlet, the National Intelligence Service briefed lawmakers that Kim Jo-ae could be officially designated as the heir apparent. The revelation came ahead of the Worker’s Party of Korea’s major conference this month, where important hints were dropped about the possible succession plans.
Kim Jo-ae made her public debut in November 2022, witnessing the launch of a long-range missile. Since then, she has appeared alongside her father in various events, including military parades, weapon tests, and factory visits. Last year, she traveled to China, which was seen as part of her preparation for leadership.
Initially, South Korean officials were skeptical about the possibility of a female leader in a patriarchal system, but Kim Jo-ae’s consistent presence on the political stage has raised doubts about this assumption.
Another name being floated as a potential contender for the top seat is Kim Yu-jong, a 38-year-old North Korean official and a member of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s Central Committee. She is known for her hardline stance and has issued warnings to South Korea’s defense minister in 2022.
According to a report, a former South Korean intelligence official, Roh Jung-yol, believes that Kim Yu-jong would not hesitate to challenge for leadership if she gets the opportunity.
The situation has raised concerns about a potential power struggle within the Kim family, which could have significant implications for the region.
