The Islamabad High Court has rejected a plea to transfer the trial of TikTok star Thana Yousuf’s murder case to another court. Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, has issued a detailed judgment in this regard. The court has declared the allegations of bias and corruption against the trial court judge as baseless and dismissed the plea. In the detailed judgment, the Islamabad High Court stated that repeatedly seeking adjournments is equivalent to hindering the path to justice, and the trial will continue in the Additional Session Judge West’s court.
The court has directed the trial judge, Afzal Majooka, to continue the trial. In the detailed judgment, it was stated that providing a lawyer at public expense is a constitutional right of the accused to complete the trial. The language used by the accused against the trial court was found to be inappropriate. The order states that the hard language used by the accused against the judge is against the dignity of the judiciary.
It is worth mentioning that the accused, Umar Hayat, had sought to transfer the trial to another court, and had also accused the Additional Session Judge of being biased.
