The US Department of State has announced plans to limit or revoke visas for individuals who support entities opposing US interests. Thus far, 26 visas have been revoked. According to international media reports, this move is part of President Donald Trump’s new policy, dubbed the “Donroe Doctrine,” aimed at increasing US influence. This policy is influenced by the historical “Monroe Doctrine.”
The US government has also mandated that citizens of 12 additional countries pay a maximum of $15,000 in security bonds to obtain visas. This decision is part of the Trump administration’s new immigration policy aimed at tightening immigration rules.
The Department of State stated that restrictions will be applied to individuals who provide financial, political, or other significant assistance to hostile forces, particularly actions that harm regional security, economy, or sovereignty. However, the US authorities have not explicitly named any country in this context, but the move is being viewed in the context of China’s growing influence and the anti-drug campaign in the region.
Prior to this, the Trump administration had imposed visa restrictions on critics and political figures. Last year, the government took action against Palestinian supporters under the same law. Recently, at least seven Iranian nationals had their visas revoked along with some Latin American leaders, including Brazilian judges.
The US has announced plans to abolish the long-standing lottery system for H-1B work visas and introduce a new “vetted selection” system. Under US law, entry restrictions can be imposed on foreign nationals who pose a risk to US foreign policy.
Critics have labeled this policy as a form of political pressure and a violation of human rights. Meanwhile, the Trump administration asserts that these measures are necessary to ensure national security and regional stability.
