In a shocking revelation, Farooq Sattar, the leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has claimed that over 100 civilians lost their lives in the tragic incident at Karachi’s Gul Plaza building. He emphasized that the government should have conducted an in-depth investigation into the matter. During a press conference in Karachi, Farooq Sattar stated that Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui wrote a letter to the Prime Minister regarding a judicial inquiry, but the Sindh government filed a case against unknown individuals after receiving the letter.
Farooq Sattar claimed that a First Information Report (FIR) was hastily filed against unknown individuals, and an inquiry commission was formed on February 4 to investigate the incident. The MQM submitted a request to be a part of the inquiry commission. According to investigative sources, a fire broke out in a shop selling artificial flowers in the building, and children playing in the shop were caught in the blaze.
The MQM leader stated that the inquiry commission refused to listen to the MQM’s concerns and that the commission’s report should have been made public. He demanded that the report be made available to the public, saying that the MQM had requested to participate in the inquiry as a civilian. Farooq Sattar claimed that only a few people volunteered to join the commission, and the commission submitted its report to the government on April 8. He emphasized that an investigation into the delay in extinguishing the fire is necessary.
The MQM leader also stated that the commission’s report should have been made public, but it was sent to the Chief Minister of Sindh in a sealed envelope. He claimed that this incident is a clear indication of negligence on the part of the government. The Sindh government presented the report to the cabinet but did not make it public, instead, it was forwarded to the Minister of Interior, Zia Lango, to take necessary action.
