Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has summoned an emergency parliamentary meet to discuss the ongoing Iran conflict situation. According to sources, all parliamentary leaders from various parties have been invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at the Parliament House soon. The meeting will also include opposition leaders from the National Assembly and Senate.
The move comes as Pakistan has been attempting to de-escalate the situation by taking a backseat since the recent attacks on Iran. Sources claim that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed his team to reach out to opposition leaders, with Rana Sanaullah, the Interior Minister, contacting opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Rana Sanaullah will extend an invitation to the opposition leader to join the emergency parliamentary meet.
Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), has visited the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad. Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has stated that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has attempted to divert international attention from Gaza by launching attacks on Iran.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Barrister Gohar, has expressed his concerns about the current situation, stating that the prime minister has not decided to leave the country. He also expressed hope that PTI’s founding leader, Imran Khan, would be released from jail before Eid.
PTI leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has been nominated by the party as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. However, the party’s leader, Imran Khan, remains under house arrest.
