The Middle East is on the cusp of war as tensions escalate between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss the situation.
According to Russian news agency Tass, Putin and Mohammed bin Salman discussed the crisis in the Middle East following the US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran. The two leaders expressed concerns over the rising tensions in the region and emphasized the need to resolve the situation through diplomatic channels.
Indian opposition Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi criticized the Indian government for ignoring its long-time ally, Iran. The US Senate Committee stated that Iran is launching missiles from mobile launchers, which the US military is targeting. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ruled out using its airspace for any US-led attacks on Iran.
Majid bin Rashid Al Muhannadi, the Emirati minister of state for foreign affairs, said that the UAE would not allow its airspace to be used for any attacks on Iran. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that Majid bin Rashid Al Muhannadi had taken over as the new commander, two days after the death of his predecessor, Amir Nasir Hadizadeh.
“We will not accept or allow any violation of our sovereignty or territorial integrity,” the UAE statement read. The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said that any involvement of European countries in the war against Iran would be considered an act of war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the war in the Middle East could lead to a nuclear arms race in the region. The Chinese government expressed deep concern over civilian casualties following the US drone strike on the US embassy in Riyadh.
The Russian Security Council’s deputy chairman, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that the US drone strike on Iran was a grave mistake. The UAE has ruled out using its airspace for any US-led attacks on Iran.
