Lahore, March 2, 2024: A high-level committee meeting brought an end to the dispute over the Lahore High Court Bar elections, with the Independent Group and the Professional Group agreeing to resolve the matter through mutual consent. The committee decided that the Punjab Bar Council’s decision regarding the election of the High Court Bar president would remain in effect up to the presidency level. The Punjab Bar Council had earlier put the president’s election on hold.
According to the committee’s decision, a biometric system will be purchased within a week, and the decision will be acceptable to both groups. In case of a server failure in the computer, the election will be held again, and if the report of the forensic test is negative, the existing result will be accepted.
The committee will decide on the procedure and the agency for the forensic test, and the next meeting of the committee will be held on March 3. The committee will be assisted by four newly elected secretaries, including Qasim Ajaz Samra.
Ahsan Bhon, Pir Masood Chishti, Ramzan Chaudhry, and Tahir Nasrullah Wadera represented the Independent Group, while Ashfaq A Khan, Maqsood Butt, Shahfaqat Chohan, and Asad Manzoor Butt represented the Professional Group.
In other news, Jamiat-e-Islami’s Sindh Assembly member, Ahmed Shahzad, has submitted a resolution in the Sindh Assembly against the attacks on Iran. Speaking to Geo News, he said that the fine of 50 million rupees on players is too low and should be increased.
In a welcome development for Haj pilgrims, the schedule for Haj flights has been announced. According to sources in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the first Haj flight from Pakistan is scheduled to depart on April 18, and a total of 468 flights will be operated under the government’s Haj scheme to transport pilgrims to the Holy Land.
