Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, led a successful quadrilateral meeting with his counterparts from Italy, Spain, and Greece in Rome, aimed at curbing irregular migration and human trafficking. The meeting marked a significant breakthrough as Pakistan, Italy, Spain, and Greece agreed on a unified strategy to combat these issues, including a shared policy framework and swift response mechanisms.
According to a statement released by the Pakistani Interior Minister, European partners commended Pakistan’s efforts in reducing irregular migration by 47%, citing the country’s robust measures. The parties also agreed to enhance cooperation with the European Union to boost capacity-building initiatives.
During the meeting, the interior ministers of the four countries decided to promote legal pathways for refugees, facilitate the return of convicted criminals to face justice, and schedule a follow-up meeting in Pakistan by the end of the year. In a separate development, the opposition alliance held a consultative session before initiating talks with the government.
In Islamabad, Opposition Leader Mahmood Achakzai and Rana Sanaullah met at the Parliament House to discuss the country’s political situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the GHQ in Rawalpindi, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the situation in Afghanistan from the military leadership.
