Punjab has made history by launching its first-ever free mortuary transfer service. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz. During the meeting, the approval was given to provide a free ambulance service to transfer deceased individuals from hospitals to their homes. Maryam Nawaz asked for a plan to start a government vehicle service in all major hospitals and every town of the province. She has also appointed a 3-month timeline for police reforms. According to the new system, at least one ambulance will be available in every town for the transfer of deceased from hospitals to their homes. The relatives of the deceased can call 1122 or get the ambulance service free of cost from the hospital counter.
The mortuary transfer service will be monitored through a smart management system. Also, the facility to transfer the deceased to other cities for free will be provided. The meeting also agreed to regulate private ambulance services and consider fixing their rates. Meanwhile, security forces conducted an intelligence operation in Dera Ismail Khan, targeting proxy terrorists from India. According to the ISPR, the operation was carried out in response to the presence of terrorists from India.
Maryam Nawaz said that heavy amounts were being charged for private ambulance services at government hospitals, exploiting the grieving families. However, with the introduction of the free mortuary transfer service, no one will have to face exploitation during this difficult time.
