In a major crackdown, Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has destroyed over 1.1 million liters of liquor and more than 18 tons of various types of narcotics in Sheikhupura. The ANF, which is fighting against the smuggling of narcotics, has seized over 88 kilograms of narcotics during 7 operations and arrested 9 suspects. The destroyed narcotics include heroin, hashish, opium, and bhang, besides over 1.1 million liters of liquor.
ANF officials said that they have arrested 590 narcotics smugglers this year and registered 463 cases. In a related development, Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Rana Iqbal, has suspended an MP, Usman, and will remain suspended until he seeks forgiveness.
Rana Iqbal said that the MP had claimed to be associated with the Khald Magbool group and had been threatened by the group’s leader, Iqbal Mehsood. The MP also claimed that he had been asked to leave the assembly after being threatened.
In another development, the Commission for International Trade, which was established to investigate complaints of corruption against officials of the Pakistan Customs, has said that it has received several complaints from citizens through letters and emails. The Commission will conduct an initial inquiry into the complaints and will summon the complainants.
