The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the national team for the T20 World Cup, but a million-dollar question still lingers. A meeting between PCB Chairman Rameez Raja and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected, which may include discussions on participating in or boycotting the T20 World Cup. The decision to participate or not participate in the T20 World Cup will be made after consulting with Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar. The PCB has also decided to consult with Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar regarding the participation or non-participation in the mega cricket event. Federal Minister for Information, Atta Tarar, has stated that the consultative process is ongoing, and whichever decision is made will be shared with the public.
Before this, Rameez Raja met with the national team players and assured them of their confidence in the situation created by the ICC’s decision. The fitness of women players in the camp has increased, and young players are being included in the team to prepare for the World Cup.
Pakistan’s captain, Azam Khan, has taken a step forward by showing solidarity with Bangladesh, which was excluded from the T20 World Cup. In an interview, Azam Khan expressed his views on the Pakistan-India T20 World Cup controversy, saying that Pakistan has been lagging behind India in sports in the past. He added that India understands that cricket can be a tool to harm Pakistan, just like it did in the past.
In other news, the franchise rights of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team, Lahore Qalandars, have been sold, and the team has announced its squad for the upcoming season. Salman Ali Agha, a cricketer, has expressed his excitement about participating in his first World Cup and said that he is looking forward to winning the best male and female athlete awards, which will come with a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.
This comes after a satirical poster of Cristiano Ronaldo went viral on social media, in which he was shown not participating in a match between Al-Nassr and Al-Riyadh. The poster was captioned, “What if the ICC excludes India too?”
The ICC is now trying to find ways to appease Pakistan, which has decided to boycott the scheduled match against India in the T20 World Cup. The two countries have agreed to establish an inter-regional forum. In a video, Pakistani cricketers were shown mimicking the style of Aamer Ahmed in a fun way.
