Skardu:
In a rare yet symbolic incident, an Assistant Commissioner in Ghanche district administered polio drops to a father who had refused to vaccinate his child — in an effort to build public trust in the safety of the vaccine.
According to the District Health Officer, the ongoing anti-polio campaign successfully reached over 38,000 children across the district, with strong cooperation from local communities.
However, one resident refused to allow his five-year-old son to receive the vaccine. In response, the Assistant Commissioner personally gave the father polio drops on the spot, demonstrating that the vaccine is completely harmless.
District officials clarified that the step was not punitive but educational and confidence-building, aimed at dispelling misconceptions about the vaccine.
Later, the father admitted his mistake, saying, “I now realize polio drops are essential for children’s health. Refusing them was my error.”
