PTI Founder’s Lawyers Notified About Judgment Announcement in High-Profile Case
Rawalpindi: The highly awaited verdict in the £190 million case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, is expected to be announced today after three deferrals.
The judgment, reserved on December 18, 2024, will be delivered at 11:30 AM by Judge Nasir Javed in a makeshift court at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Court staff have informed the PTI founder’s lawyers about the announcement.
This case is part of the extensive legal challenges faced by the incarcerated PTI founder, who has been in jail for over a year following his conviction in Toshakhana case-I.
Al-Qadir Trust Case
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in December 2023 of unlawfully adjusting £190 million transferred by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government.
According to NAB, the PTI founder secured land worth billions from a property tycoon to establish an educational institute in exchange for granting legal cover to the tycoon’s “black money.”
The Al-Qadir Trust was founded in Islamabad weeks after the PTI government approved the settlement with the tycoon.
Year-Long Trial
The accountability watchdog arrested Imran Khan on November 13, 2023, interrogating him and Bushra Bibi for 17 days in Adiala Jail.
Formal charges were filed in February 2024. Key witnesses included former cabinet members Pervez Khattak, Zubaida Jalal, ex-principal secretary Azam Khan, and the Al-Qadir University CFO.
The Islamabad High Court granted bail to Khan in the £190 million case, while Bushra Bibi received pre-arrest bail.
Throughout the proceedings, four judges were replaced, including Judge Muhammad Bashir, Judge Nasir Javed Rana, Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich, and Judge Rana presiding over the final hearings.
