On January 16, 2025, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) presented its demands for probes into the May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, events, as well as the release of “political prisoners.” The party warned that it would not continue negotiations unless two separate commissions were formed.
The written demands were submitted by PTI’s National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, and included a total of 22 key demands. These include calls for the formation of two commissions to investigate the May 9 and November 26 events.
The PTI insisted that the commissions should be led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan or three serving Supreme Court judges, with proceedings open to the public and media. Additionally, the PTI demanded the release and suspension of sentences for political prisoners.
The PTI’s demands for the two commissions include investigating the legality of Khan’s arrest on May 9, the subsequent damage caused by protesters, and the treatment of those arrested. For the November 26 events, PTI seeks an inquiry into the use of live ammunition, physical assault on protesters, and the state of medical records and CCTV footage.
The government has promised to respond to PTI’s demands within seven days, but emphasized that the formation of the commissions will be expedited.
