-Insaf (PTI) leadership has emphasized national interest as their top priority, endorsing dialogue with the government for the sake of the country.
This development comes as PTI is set to present its “Charter of Demands” in the upcoming session next week. The two sides have already met twice, on December 23 and January 2, to alleviate political tensions.
Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said, “Pakistan is our top priority, and we will engage in talks for its sake.”
He criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks regarding the November PTI protests in Islamabad, insisting no shots were fired during the crackdown and called such statements inappropriate.
According to PTI, 13 supporters were killed, 58 injured, and 45 remain missing in the November 26 protests, while five law enforcement personnel were martyred in the clashes.
Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed the need for sincere negotiations between the treasury and opposition benches, stating, “Dialogue is not the need of PTI but of Pakistan.”
After appearing in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, Qureshi warned that failure in dialogue could jeopardize democracy in the country. He urged the government to approach the talks with sincerity.
Following the second round of discussions, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that PTI would present its demands in writing after consulting its incarcerated leader, Imran Khan.
PTI’s demands include the release of Imran Khan and other party workers, as well as the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26.
Both sides agreed that PTI representatives would meet with Imran Khan to finalize the demands, with the third round of talks scheduled after this consultation.
