Senator Kamran Murtaza of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has stated that all differences between the government and his party regarding the Madrasah Registration Bill have been resolved, and the Gazette notification for the bill will be issued within the next two days.
Senator Murtaza explained that in collaboration with Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, they have finalized the draft of the bill, which will now be fully implemented. He stated that under the new amended bill, madrasas will be registered under the Ministry of Industries and Commerce instead of the Ministry of Education.
The bill faced controversy when President Arif Alvi returned it with objections, expressing concerns that registering madrasas through social registration could negatively impact Pakistan’s international standing and internal security.
President Alvi’s objections also highlighted that registering madrasas as social institutions could foster sectarianism, and the establishment of numerous madrasas in one region could deteriorate law and order.
JUI-F has made efforts to address these concerns and has promised amendments to the bill considering the wishes of various stakeholders.
Following the immediate issuance of the Gazette notification, the bill will be reapproved in a joint session and sent back to the President for final approval.
