Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has indicated that it may consider withdrawing its deferred civil disobedience call if the ongoing negotiations with the government reflect seriousness. According to PTI’s Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, party founder Imran Khan has instructed not to compromise on two primary demands: the release of all political prisoners, including Khan himself, and the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 riots and the November 26 incident.
The initial round of talks between the government and PTI was recently held, during which the government agreed to PTI’s demand to consult with the incarcerated party founder, Imran Khan. PTI plans to present its written demands in the upcoming round of talks and has sought a timeframe from the government for progress on these demands.
Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information, emphasized the need for seriousness in the negotiations, stating that if conducted earnestly, the talks could bring stability to national politics; otherwise, tensions may persist.
