Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in New York for a five-day visit, during which he will participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Government of Pakistan shared images of the Prime Minister’s arrival on their official X account, where he was warmly welcomed by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister will have a busy day in New York, including attending a reception hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in honor of heads of member states. He will also engage in informal meetings with various world leaders.
Joining him on this trip are Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
During his visit, Shehbaz Sharif is expected to hold important discussions with global leaders and speak candidly about peacekeeping in the Security Council. He will also meet with American business figures to discuss Pakistan’s investment-friendly policies.
The Prime Minister aims to raise the voices of the oppressed peoples of Kashmir and Palestine at the UN General Assembly while also engaging with heads of international financial institutions.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet with Bill Gates and the President of the World Bank, and there are expectations of a special meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Throughout his visit, the Prime Minister will address rising maritime threats and issues related to climate change on international platforms.
He will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of friendly countries, attending a luncheon hosted by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei to celebrate 40 years of Brunei’s membership in the UN, as well as a dinner hosted by Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to mark 50 years of Bangladesh’s UN membership.
