Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has stated that Tehran is prepared to re-establish diplomatic relations with the US following a change in America’s stance. This comes after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei emphasized that the future of the Persian Gulf is bright without American presence, citing a shared destiny for Iran and its Gulf neighbors. The statement follows US President Donald Trump’s assertion that the US has nearly achieved its objectives in the war against Iran.
In a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, President Raisi highlighted that Iran is prepared to engage in logical and diplomatic negotiations. He also underscored the need for the US to immediately cease its maritime blockade of Iranian ships and condemn the measure as a violation of international law.
The Iranian President’s comments build on his earlier statement on the National Day of the Persian Gulf, where he emphasized that the region’s future is tied to the absence of foreign elements, specifically the US and Israel. Trump’s administration has been working to maintain its military presence in the region, with the 60-day congressional review period for the Iran deal expiring yesterday.
Meanwhile, the UAE has imposed travel restrictions on its citizens to Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq in light of the current regional developments. Israel has reportedly provided the UAE with a modern surveillance system capable of detecting drones, including those of Iranian origin, up to 20 kilometers away.
In other news, Ukraine has announced reforms in its military, while the US Department of Defense has partnered with prominent AI companies to develop new technologies. The US is also reportedly planning new military operations against Iran, with the US Navy continuing to maintain its blockade of Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz.
In the wake of the US-Iran tensions, the UK’s top 10 ranking in the ICC World Test Championship has been affected, with the team requiring a minimum of two test matches to regain its spot. The team has been relegated due to Ireland’s failure to meet its match requirements.
