Karachi, Pakistan – In a bid to alleviate the suffering of Karachi’s residents, the Sindh government has announced a plan to renovate the University Road within 90 days. The decision was taken by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, who expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the residents due to the poor condition of the road.
According to the plan, the University Road will be rebuilt as a separate provincial project, rather than being a part of the BRT Red Line project. The decision was made after considering the public complaints and the increasing difficulties faced by commuters on a daily basis.
Addressing a gathering in Karachi, Murad Ali Shah said that the road, which is a major thoroughfare, has been neglected for far too long, and it’s high time that it’s rebuilt. “Now that the Mezban has been built, and the Hormuz has been opened, but the University Road remains closed. Perhaps someone has taken the residents’ complaints seriously, and the Hormuz has been closed again,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the Sindh government has decided to rebuild the University Road independently, using its own funds, to provide relief to the public. “We are not linking this project to the BRT Red Line project,” he said.
Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, also spoke to the media, saying that the decision was taken after considering the public complaints and the difficulties faced by commuters on a daily basis. He said that the new project will rebuild the road from Surjani to Numaish, which is a major thoroughfare, to ensure that the road remains functional during the BRT Red Line project.
The new project will not only rebuild the road but also include proper drainage and sanitation systems to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent further damage to the road.
