The Islamabad High Court has directed the appointment of a finance member for the Telecom Appellate Tribunal by May 18. Justice Musarrat Hilali Khan issued a written order for the case’s hearing. The written order stated that the Prime Minister should personally appear on May 18 if the finance member is not appointed. The federal government has been requesting time to appoint the finance member since the last four hearings.
The Islamabad High Court stated that the federal government will be given another opportunity to appoint the finance member, and the Secretary of the Cabinet and the Law Secretary will also appear in case of the member’s absence. The order stated that the Prime Minister and the secretaries will explain the obstacles to the appointment of tribunal members. According to the Assistant Attorney General, the government has returned the appointment summary with objections.
It is worth noting that the Telecom Appellate Tribunal was established under the Telecom Appellate Tribunal Act 2024, with a notification issued on September 28, 2024.
