The Islamabad United franchise has announced that Sri Lankan cricketer Pawan Rathnayake has been added to the squad, replacing Dipendra Singh Airey who has left the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to national duty. Airey was signed for 60 lakh Pakistani rupees for the PSL action.
According to the Islamabad United spokesperson, Airey will receive 70% of his contract amount due to limited availability in the tournament. The remaining 30% will be given to Rathnayake. Islamabad United head coach Luke Ronchi stated that the PSL 11 pitches have been slightly more challenging than usual, and they expect similar conditions in upcoming matches.
Ronchi further added that players who understand Asian conditions and can play spinners well are essential for the team. Rathnayake has experience and expertise in playing spinners and Asian conditions. Ronchi welcomed Rathnayake to Islamabad United.
