Iran’s renowned analyst Professor Muhammad Merandi has stated that the country had indirect talks with the US, but the latter resorted to a conspiracy to impose war. In an exclusive interview with Geo News in Islamabad, Professor Merandi expressed his views on the talks and the US, stating that the country had been engaged in negotiations before the conflict escalated.
According to Professor Merandi, the Oman Foreign Minister had said that the talks had made significant progress, but the US still carried out the attack. The Professor stated that the Iranian delegation had separate meetings with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before the talks, where they discussed regional and global peace.
Professor Merandi emphasized that Iran had already shown great resilience and that the onus now lay on the other party to fulfill its commitments. He stated that if any agreement is made, it is the responsibility of both parties to implement it.
Donald Trump had stated that the talks with Iran began at dawn and lasted for almost 20 hours, adding that he could go into great detail about the discussions and the results. An American official confirmed that the US’s entire negotiating team had left Islamabad.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi over the phone. In a statement on social media, Donald Trump said that the talks with Iran were very productive, with many points of agreement. However, the issue of Iran’s nuclear program was a major point of contention that could not be resolved.
The UK and Australia have expressed disappointment that no deal was reached between Iran and the US in Islamabad. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “modern-day Hitler” and threatened to attack Israel. Pope Francis delivered his weekly prayer in the Vatican City.
Former Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said that the US must understand that Iran cannot be dictated to. Ibrahim Azizi added that Iran cannot trust the Americans anymore, and it is time for them to decide whether they can regain Iran’s trust. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that some parts of the Lavan refinery will resume operations within 10 days.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has called on Iran and the US to return to negotiations and maintain the ceasefire. Mark Bullen, a former American diplomat, has been stripped of his passport under the National Security Act.
