The Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Ahsan Iqbal, will represent Pakistan at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina’s successor, Sheikh Taher.
According to sources, former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will not attend the ceremony as he is currently abroad. The Prime Minister will, however, soon visit Bangladesh and offer his congratulations to the new Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, the head of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Senator Shafiq Rahman, has congratulated Sheikh Taher on being appointed as the new Prime Minister. Shafiq Rahman stated that the meeting with Sheikh Taher is a positive step in his national political journey and that he will cooperate with the government on national issues. He also emphasized that the opposition must be strong and principled, and will support the government when it works in the public interest.
In a separate development, the Opposition Leader in the Senate, Raja Nasir Abbas, stated that the sit-in protests should continue until the government meets with their representatives. The Commissioner of Karachi has issued a notification for the prices of various commodities during the month of Ramadan. The prices of 500 grams of chapati have been fixed at Rs. 14, 120-150 grams of tandoori naan at Rs. 18-21, and sugar at Rs. 90-100 per kg.
The Sindh government has taken action against the appointments of Pro-Vice Chancellors and Acting Vice Chancellors in universities.
