The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi engaged in a 50-minute telephonic conversation, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. The two leaders discussed the current situation in the region and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability. Sharif praised the participation of the Iranian delegation in the talks held in Islamabad on April 11-12 and welcomed the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who led the delegation.
The statement said that the Prime Minister and the Iranian President agreed to maintain close contacts and regular consultations to address regional challenges. Raisi expressed gratitude to Sharif, Field Marshal, and the Foreign Minister for their efforts to promote peace and stability. The Iranian President reiterated Iran’s desire for peace and expressed hope that the brotherly relations between Iran and Pakistan would become stronger and more extensive in the future.
Sharif assured Raisi that Pakistan would continue to make sincere and serious efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. The Prime Minister briefed Raisi on his recent diplomatic activities, including his interactions with world leaders, which helped to build consensus on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for sustainable peace.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the fruitful discussions with the Iranian leadership during the visit of Field Marshal to Tehran and conveyed good wishes and respect to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu spoke with Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the phone. Çavuşoğlu said that the key issues in the Iran-US nuclear deal would be resolved in the second phase of negotiations.
