The Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, has departed for Dhaka to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman. As Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, is out of the country on an official visit, Ahsan Iqbal will represent the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening friendly relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which will pave the way for progress in political, economic, and social spheres.
In a related development, women in Chaudharpur’s Faridganj Arazila village in South Union have, for the first time in 56 years, exercised their right to vote. In response to this, the ruling party of Bangladesh, BNP, has stated that a large number of local and international guests are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony. BNP further revealed that Pakistan’s Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Bhutan’s Prime Minister, and the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha will be among the attendees.
Other notable guests expected to attend the ceremony include the Foreign Minister of Nepal and the Health Minister of Sri Lanka. Additionally, the UK’s Indo-Pacific Under Secretary is expected to attend, and the President of Maldives may also be present.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has arrived in Muree via the Expressway, where she will stay at her residence in the Shahid Bagh Kashmir Point. Rizwana Begum, a Pakistani woman who was smuggled into Bangladesh 40 years ago, has been separated from her family for decades and has been trying to reunite with them.
In a separate development, Opposition Leader in the Senate, Allama Raja Naser Abbas, has stated that the protest should continue until there is a meeting with the authorities. The Commissioner of Karachi has issued a notification setting the prices of various items for the holy month of Ramadan. According to the notification, 14 rupees have been fixed for a 500-gram chapati, while 120-150 grams of tandoori bread will cost between 18-21 rupees.
