HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You still might want a jacket the next few mornings, but a huge warm-up is on the way for the afternoons. By Friday, we’re flirting with highs in the 90s, and next week, a surge of moisture brings back warmer mornings and chances for widespread rain.
An abundance of sunshine and a Gulf breeze will work together to push high temperatures above 80 on Wednesday afternoon. Ragweed, elm tree, and mold spores remain high.
How long does this cooler weather stick around?
We’re expecting these below-average morning lows to last through Saturday, but the highs will quickly push into above-average territory ahead of the weekend.
What is in store for the weekend?
It’ll be another nice weekend, but it won’t have that fall feel of the last two weekends. High temperatures will flirt with 90 both Saturday and Sunday, and the humidity will creep up a notch by Sunday, too.
When could we get more rain?
It still looks like we’ll stay dry for the rest of this week despite a front blowing through late Thursday. There’s just not enough moisture to go around. Next week we’re eying moisture from a tropical system in the Pacific named Norma that could send some showers and thunderstorms our way as early as Tuesday. It’s too soon to say how much rain we could get, but history teaches us that these Pacific systems can bring high accumulations if a front gets into the mix. By the way, that big influx of moisture will push our low temperatures into the 70s by next Wednesday.
What is happening in the tropics?
We are now in that time of year when we have to pay closer attention to what’s happening in the Pacific since those storms can recurve into Mexico and send heavy rains to Texas. Currently, we are monitoring a Pacific storm named Norma that may do just that next week. For the latest tropical update, head here: Tropical Update page.
