HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Grab a jacket on your way out the door! It has been a chilly start to the day with most areas dropping into the upper 40s. Temperatures haven’t dipped into the 40s since March 20th!
An abundance of sunshine will push temperatures well into the 70s Tuesday afternoon, so you won’t need your jacket all day. While you’re enjoying this lovely weather, keep in mind we are in the thick of our fall allergy season with ragweed, elm tree, and grass pollens all registering at high levels.
How long does this cooler weather stick around?
We’re expecting these below average temperatures to last through Tuesday night. After that winds begin to shift back out of the south on Wednesday and temperatures will rebound back to their seasonal range, which is morning lows in the low 60s and afternoon highs in the low 80s. By Friday, highs temperatures will be pushing closer to 90.
What is in store for the weekend?
It’ll be another nice weekend, but it won’t have that fall-feel of the last two weekends. Humidity levels will be higher under a partly cloudy sky with lows in the 60s and highs in the mid 80s.
When could we get more rain?
It now looks like we’ll stay dry for the rest of this week despite a front blowing through late Thursday. There’s just not enough moisture to go around. Next week we’re eying moisture from a tropical system in the Pacific that could send some showers and thunderstorms our way. A big influx of moisture will at a minimum push our low temperatures into the 70s.
What is happening in the tropics?
Based on the projected steering currents over the Gulf, we are likely in the clear from any direct hits for the rest of hurricane season. That said, we’re entering the time of year when we have to pay closer attention to what’s happening in the Pacific since those storms can recurve into Mexico and send heavy rains to Texas.
