HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Cool front #1 didn’t cool us off much but it did drop our humidity a touch. Cool front #2 will really cool us off for the weekend.
We are expecting it to feel rather pleasant for any outdoor activities Friday evening with temperatures in the 70s and near ideal relative humidity around 50%.
What are we expecting for the weekend after the next cold front blows in?
It should be delightfully chilly! There will still be plenty of high clouds around on Saturday, which, when combined with a cool north wind at 15 mph, should keep highs in the 70s. With the sky mostly clearing out Saturday night, temperatures will dip into the mid 50s across Southeast Texas Sunday morning. Then, even with an abundance of sunshine, highs will only warm into the mid 70s Sunday afternoon!
How long will the cool air stick around?
Morning lows will again dip into the middle 50s for Monday morning with daytime highs in the low 80s. You’ll start to feel the sticky air returning on Tuesday, and by Wednesday any trace of our weekend cool down will be long gone.
Is Texas done with the hurricane season?
At this time, no tropical development is expected in the Gulf in the next seven days, and we’re nearing the latest date on record a hurricane has made landfall in Texas, which is October 15. Based on the projected steering currents over the Gulf and the resulting high wind shear, we are likely in the clear from any direct hits. That said, we’re entering the time of year when we have to pay closer attention to what’s happening in the Pacific since those storms can recurve into Mexico and send heavy rains to Texas. That very well may happen next week as two tropical systems in the Pacific get scooped up by the jet stream. For the latest on Atlantic Tropical Storm Philippe, head to our Tropical Update page.
