The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has received advanced defense systems from Israel, including a cutting-edge laser-based defense system, to counter the growing threat of Iranian missiles and drones. According to a report by the British newspaper Financial Times, Israel has provided the UAE with modern weapons and defense systems to counter the Iranian threat.
The report states that Israel has supplied the UAE with the “Spectro” system, a cutting-edge surveillance system that can detect drones, particularly Iranian-made Shahed drones, approaching up to 20 kilometers away. The company, backed by Trump’s sons, has announced that it has signed a deal with the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) to provide Interceptor drones, although the number of drones is not disclosed.
In addition to the Spectro system, Israel has also deployed its advanced laser-based defense system, “Iron Beam,” which is designed to destroy short-range rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the air. This system has recently been activated and was used against Lebanon-based attacks at the beginning of the year. Israel has also sent its “Iron Dome” air defense system to the UAE, along with dozens of Israeli military personnel to operate the systems.
According to the report, Israel has not only provided the UAE with modern defense systems but has also shared real-time intelligence on possible missile attacks from Iran. Although some of the systems were still in the experimental phase or not fully integrated with the Israeli radar network, the rapid nature of the cooperation is evident. This move comes after the damage caused by the Iranian attacks on April 8, which affected three units of the refinery.
The report states that Iran has launched over 500 ballistic missiles and 2,000 drones against the UAE, most of which were neutralized by various defense systems. However, the attacks have put pressure on the defense stores of the US, Israel, and Gulf countries, as advanced interceptor missiles are expensive and time-consuming to deploy. Amidst the current situation, the demand for cost-effective and effective defense technology has increased.
Experts say that detecting small, low-temperature signature drones is a challenging task, and new technologies, particularly laser systems, may be more effective. The UAE, which has withdrawn from OPEC, has announced a daily production adjustment of 1.7 million barrels of oil.
In a separate development, the US is expected to launch “Project Freedom” in the Middle East, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Benson. The German Foreign Minister has stated that Iran should fully abandon its nuclear weapons program. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has stated that China, Russia, and Europe are changing their stance against the US, limiting its decision-making capacity. The Asian Development Bank has announced a plan to promote power grids and electricity trade in the region, with a commitment of $7 billion by 2035.
In a shocking incident, a passenger on a flight from Sharjah to Dubai suddenly opened the emergency door and jumped out of the plane while it was still taxiing. In a separate incident in Bristol, UK, a dawn explosion at a home killed two people. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) final match saw the Peshawar Zalmi defeat the Hyderabad Kingsmen by 5 wickets, claiming the championship title for the second time in eight years.
