The Strait of Hormuz has witnessed a significant development as a French container ship has successfully navigated through the waterway for the first time since the US and Israel launched their attack on the region. According to Bloomberg, the CMA CGM Kribi, a container ship linked to France, sailed through the Strait of Hormuz near Oman, marking the first movement of a Western European ship since the conflict began.
Following the escalation of tensions and the ongoing war, three major ships attempted to navigate through an alternative route near the coast of Oman, a development that has been hailed as a crucial breakthrough for the global energy market. According to reports, the information was provided by sources familiar with the situation who track the movements of the ships.
Iran has tightened its surveillance over the Strait of Hormuz, where only selected ships are allowed to pass through, while warning vessels affiliated with its enemies. It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical trade routes, accounting for about 20% of the world’s daily oil supply. The Strait has seen a significant decline in maritime traffic since the conflict, which has had a ripple effect on global energy markets.
In a related development, the Iranian embassy in South Africa has tweeted that “Regime Change has succeeded in making America great.” The tweet, which also included a meme of US President Donald Trump, was made by the Iranian Ambassador to South Africa, Hassan Kazemi Qomi.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has claimed to have successfully targeted an Israeli ship using a drone. In a separate incident, Iranian authorities have arrested the daughter of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian military commander who was killed in a US drone strike, as well as her mother, after the US revoked their special visa.
The US has reportedly offered Pakistan’s Field Marshal Qamar Javed Bajwa as a mediator to resolve the crisis, while the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing a diplomatic setback. The Iranian government has given the US 10 days to negotiate a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz, and that deadline is expiring soon.
