In a major crackdown, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested seven government officials, including a bureaucrat from the Office of the Protector, for embezzling funds from citizens for official work in Lahore. According to the FIA spokesperson, the arrested individuals include Mahmood Iqbal, Muhammad Nadeem, Younis Khan, Hussian, Iftikhar, Omar, and Deputy Naib Qasid Muhammad Asad. The FIA spokesperson stated that the accused officials were embezzling funds from citizens for official work. The spokesperson also mentioned that the agency has seized various documents, passports, and mobile phones from the accused officials.
This development comes as the Sindh government has signed an agreement with the US Department of Agriculture to provide free meals and rations to over 200,000 students in 1,300 primary schools across the province. The program, facilitated by the McGovern-Dole Food for Education Program, will provide $80 million in financial aid to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the federal government has announced that it will provide uninterrupted electricity supply to citizens during the fasting hours of Ramadan. The Lahore High Court has also ordered the return of the amount collected as guarantee by Maryam Nawaz from the Chaudhry Sugar Mills.
