The Pakistani government has come under intense scrutiny over the medical treatment of Imran Khan, the country’s former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. In an interview with a local news program, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Aqeel Malik, expressed concerns over the contradictory medical report submitted by the government’s medical panel. He stated that the panel cannot form a medical board without a written order from the Supreme Court and cannot send private doctors or personal physicians for check-ups.
According to Malik, the government can only form a medical board comprising public hospital doctors, and even then, the PTI party would have to politicize the board. He emphasized that the government prioritizes human compassion and legal demands, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide facilities to prisoners as per the law.
Sources close to the matter revealed that the medical panel includes Dr. Amjad and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, who will conduct a check-up of Imran Khan in the coming days. After the medical examination, the panel will make a decision regarding Khan’s transfer to a hospital.
The opposition alliance, the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution, led by former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, has demanded that Khan be shifted to a hospital immediately for medical treatment. Khan’s sister, Alima Khan, expressed joy over the government’s decision to extend medical facilities to her brother, saying that the children’s voices had finally been heard.
Attorney General Anwer Mansoor Khan said that the government is committed to providing medical facilities to prisoners, and it is the government’s duty to ensure that prisoners receive facilities as per the law. However, the PTI party has accused the government of denying Khan the best possible medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the police have seized a sound system belonging to the Jamaat-e-Islami and arrested 10 of its workers. Former Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza revealed that Khan is suffering from an eye-related disease. Senior PPP leader and prominent lawyer Iqbal Haider expressed support for Khan’s medical treatment, citing medical grounds.
Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has urged people to refrain from making speculative comments about Khan’s medical treatment. However, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, Javed Tahir, has prohibited journalists from interviewing him, saying that cameras will be seized if a journalist attempts to conduct an interview.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted the entry of a weak westerly system into Balochistan on February 16. A local resident, Meraj Waseem, has sent a bouquet to Hafiz Naeem Rehman at the Nor Haq organization.
The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has expressed concern over Khan’s health situation. The government has come under fire for denying Khan the best possible medical treatment, with many calling for his immediate transfer to a hospital.
Separately, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Islamabad United, has terminated its contract with West Indian cricketer Shemar Joseph. Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has urged the government to provide Khan with the best possible medical facilities, saying that the nation is praying for his recovery.
Pakistan’s cricket captain has said that the match against India is just a game and that the team will perform to their best abilities. Indian film director Priya Drishen has spoken out against the jailing of actor Rajpal Yadav, saying that he made a mistake.
In another development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has drawn attention during the recent elections by appearing on the ballot as BJ.
