ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN – Senator Shireen Mazari of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has hailed the fragile ceasefire as a significant diplomatic success in bringing the warring factions to the negotiating table. In an interview with an Arab channel, she stated that the talks represent a major breakthrough towards peace in the region, where dialogue has been deemed the only viable path forward.
Mazari emphasized that the ceasefire has provided the parties with a breathing space to reassess their positions and formulate a strategy for future negotiations, which is a time-consuming process. She added that a lasting solution is unlikely to be achieved in a single session, and that the Pakistani leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Darr, and Asif Ali Zardari, have made concerted diplomatic efforts behind the scenes.

However, she noted that the initial hurdles and some violations notwithstanding, the negotiating process has been deemed a positive start. She emphasized that a sustained dialogue and flexible strategy are essential to advancing the peace process. In the context of global challenges such as environmental issues, Mazari stressed that a long-term series of mutual and solution-oriented talks is inevitable.
