Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has announced the appointment of former Supreme Court Judge Mansoor Ali Shah as a Professor in the Law Department. According to the university administration, Justice (Retd) Mansoor Ali Shah will deliver lectures on law and the Constitution to students and faculty members.
It is worth mentioning that Justice (Retd) Mansoor Ali Shah had resigned as a Supreme Court Judge last year on November 13. In his resignation letter, he had stated that the 27th Amendment to the Constitution is a severe attack on the Constitution of Pakistan.
In the 13-page resignation letter, Justice (Retd) Mansoor Ali Shah had stated that he had served the institution with dignity, integrity, and honesty, and that he was resigning as the Senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court. He had also stated that the 27th Amendment had severely damaged the Supreme Court of Pakistan, making it subservient to the government, and that it had undermined the independence and integrity of the judiciary.
The former Judge had also stated that the 27th Amendment had dealt a severe blow to the democratic system of Pakistan, making it vulnerable to the whims of the powerful, and that it had made the judiciary powerless.
