Tehran, Iran โ Iranโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that 55 Iranian citizens, who were deported from the United States, are scheduled to arrive back in the country in the coming days. This action is characterized by Iran as being part of US President Donald Trumpโs hardline immigration crackdown policy.
According to a foreign news agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei confirmed that this represents the second major expulsion of Iranian nationals under the Trump administration. The spokesperson detailed that the US had previously identified approximately 400 Iranians for deportation in September. A preceding operation saw 120 Iranian citizens arrive in Tehran via Doha, Qatar.
These deportation measures are seen as further straining the already tense relations between the two countries. While the return of these citizens is tied to profound human stories and emotions, it also raises critical questions regarding the rights of immigrants and the enforcement of immigration policies in the US.
During his statement, Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei also criticized another related issue: the denial of visas to the Iranian national football team’s delegation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw. He pointed out that this incident reflects the persistent diplomatic hurdles between the two nations.
