The US government is reportedly preparing a significant expansion of its highly restrictive travel ban list, with plans to increase the number of affected countries from 19 to more than 30. This move is part of the Trump administration’s hardline policy stance, justified by ongoing concerns related to national security and public safety.
US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed the review, stating that President Trump is actively evaluating which additional nations will face restrictions. The specific names of the new countries under consideration have not been disclosed publicly.
The planned expansion builds upon previous restrictions implemented earlier this year, which saw the administration halt all immigrant visa processes, including applications for Green Cards and US citizenship, for 19 non-European nations. The existing list includes countries already facing the severest restrictions, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, as well as those under partial bans like Cuba and Venezuela. The addition of more than a dozen new countries signals a major escalation in the administration’s efforts to curb immigration from certain parts of the world.
