San Francisco: An unusual and thought-provoking statement has emerged from the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where Sam Altman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenAI, has stated that he is completely prepared for an AI system to take over his position. He termed this possibility a natural and logical progression in the evolution of artificial intelligence.
During a podcast interview, Sam Altman openly discussed the possibility of a machine surpassing him as CEO. He believes this could happen very soon, suggesting that within a few years, an AI technology could potentially manage a major administrative function within OpenAI.
Sam Altman has frequently alluded to life after OpenAI. He often expresses his desire to retreat to his farm after leaving the position, where he used to drive tractors and harvest crops. Despite owning expensive properties in areas like San Francisco and Hawaii, Altman maintains that the simple life on the farm is more enjoyable than the current luxuries he possesses.
AI’s Impact on the Job Market:
Discussing the societal implications of AI, Sam Altman predicted that while the technology may cause short-term job displacement, it will ultimately create new types of employment opportunities.
Referencing a previous interview from October 2025, where he was asked how a farmer from 50 years ago would view current jobs, Altman responded, “That farmer, when he sees you or me working, will say, ‘That’s not real work.'”
He defined farming as “real work” because “you’re growing food, and you’re keeping people alive,” suggesting that life will become significantly easier for future generations. Altman clarified that while AI can replace humans in tasks that involve repetition, it is not yet possible for it to replace humans in all professions. His words suggest that, in his view, most current jobs may not be classified as “real work.”
