Stargazers across Pakistan and around the globe were treated to a viewing of the year’s largest and most magnificent “Supermoon.” The natural phenomenon captivated observers due to its extraordinary size and brightness.
In major Pakistani cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Peshawar, a large number of citizens flocked to open spaces to witness the stunning lunar spectacle and capture the view with their cameras. The Supermoon was simultaneously observed in many other countries worldwide.
According to astronomers, the Moon appeared 16 percent brighter than usual. This striking visual effect was due to the Moon being at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, causing it to look approximately 7.9 percent larger than its average size.
What is a Supermoon?
Astrophysicists explain that a Supermoon occurs when the Moon reaches its perigee—the point in its orbit closest to Earth—making it appear significantly larger and more luminous than normal. Experts suggested that the optimal time to view the Supermoon is immediately after moonrise.
It is noted that the third Supermoon of the current year is expected to be visible in December. Previously, the first Supermoon of 2025 was observed across the world on October 7.
