Two influential figures in American politics, former President Bill Clinton and senior Democratic leader Hillary Clinton, have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Zohran Mamdani, the Mayor-elect of New York City, on his “spectacular and historic victory.”
Mamdani’s win is groundbreaking as he has become both the city’s first Muslim Mayor and its youngest Mayor.
In messages posted on the social media platform ‘X,’ both leaders offered their best wishes to the newly elected Mayor.
Bill Clinton’s Message:
Former President Bill Clinton congratulated Mamdani, stating:
“I wish you success in your purpose, as you must now work to translate the spirit of your campaign into building a better, fairer, and more livable New York.”
Hillary Clinton’s Message:
Hillary Clinton hailed Mamdani’s victory as a success for democracy. She emphasized the significant turnout, noting that more votes were cast in this year’s New York election than in the past 50 years.
“This is a success for democracy and proof of Zohran Mamdani’s compelling campaign,” she said. “Heartiest congratulations to the next Mayor of the world’s greatest city.”
The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani secured 49.6 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results, defeating his main rival, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who received 41.6 percent. This decisive victory marks a new chapter in New York’s electoral history.
